Coastal Waters Polluted After Storms

Brown water rolls in as participants compete in a paddling event Saturday morning in Kalapaki Bay. Flooding from Friday’s deluge caused runoff from the land to turn the water brown. The indicator bacteria counts for Nawiliwili Stream in Kalapaki Bay on Friday were more than 232 times the allowable level, meaning the water there was extremely polluted by the runoff.

    It is evident that the county does not want to post signs warning Visitors, nor locals on the matter. Perhaps this is “bad for business” posting warning signs in front of a hotel?
    But unless there are some efforts to clean up the sources of the pollution, MRSA and other disease bacteria and viruses will proliferate and bring Kauai into National news.
