Coastal Waters Polluted After Storms
Brown water rolls in as participants compete in a paddling event Saturday morning in Kalapaki Bay. Flooding from Friday’s deluge caused runoff from the land to turn the water brown. The indicator bacteria counts for Nawiliwili Stream in Kalapaki Bay on Friday were more than 232 times the allowable level, meaning the water there was extremely polluted by the runoff.
