Beach Cleanup / Net Patrol – Jan. 19, 2013, South Lydgate
Surfrider Foundation, Kauai Chapter is organizing a clean up of South Lydgate Beach, Kamalani Bridge, and we are asking for volunteers. The recent high surf and tides has brought in a huge amount of marine debris, mostly plastic and derelict fishing nets, and Surfrider would like to remove it so it does not go back into the ocean where it can be a threat to marine life. There is also a large derelict fishing net there that we will remove. The clean up will take place on Saturday, January 19th, 9am to 12 noon. We will be meeting at south Kamalani park, near the Kamalani Bridge, look for signs.
To get there drive south of Wailua Bridge turn makai onto Leho Dirve toward (but not into) Lydgate Beach Park and onto Leho Drive. Drive beyond Kaha Lani condos to Kamalani Park, where we’ll meet near the bridge. Look for Surfrider banners. Surfrider will provide gloves, bags and tools. Please bring water, a hat and sunscreen. For more information, please call Robert at 822-4893 or Barbara at 635-2593.
