If We Didn’t Do What We Do, Kauai’s Beaches Would Look Very Different
Surfrider Kauai – joined by local community groups, Ohana and visitors – organizes regularly scheduled beach cleanups throughout the year. In 2019, we led 42 cleanups, and together with our Net Patrol program, collected more than 107,000 pounds of debris! This year we are on pace to exceed that number. Our strong, dedicated network of volunteers go out daily to clean the beaches. We pick up all plastic, nets, and trash from large stretches of beach – disposing it at the County landfill.
Why do we do what we do?
The marine and other debris we remove – especially the plastics, are poisonous to sea life when ingested, often entangle sea animals, and remain in the ocean practically forever. If you’d like to participate in a beach cleanup, want to report a net on the beach or would like to find out more, contact Project Manager Barbara, at 808-635-2593 or Bwiednerrealtor@aol.com.
